“It is time to focus our energy, resources and discourse on uprooting and eliminating the false ideology of a hierarchy of human value to grow what we value most: our common humanity. It is time to overturn this belief and to address its legacy, together. This is the work of and Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation [TRHT].” Dr. Gail C. Christopher
Racial Healing Circles
Racial Healing Circles in Charleston started in Fall 2021 and over time are cascading across Charleston in all sectors – governance, education, including colleges and universities, law enforcement, faith-based and spiritual communities, neighborhoods, businesses, and nonprofits – working collaboratively with SJREC partners, community leaders, stakeholders, and holding Racial Healing Circles that create new understandings of our common humanity for healing and relationship building.
Local co-facilitators have been trained to orchestrate the Racial Healing Circles as they are held in the community. We envision hundreds and thousands of people participating in the small group process over the course of the next five years – transforming hearts, minds and our community.

Purpose of the U.S. Truth, Racial Healing, Transformation and Racial Healing Circles
The purpose of the U.S. Truth, Racial Healing, Transformation and Racial Healing Circles (TRHT) movement is to properly acknowledge and memorialize the comprehensive effects of centuries of adherence to a racism ideology and to be a catalyst for progress toward jettisoning the belief in a hierarchy of human value, embracing our common humanity, and permanently eliminating persistent racial inequalities. The TRHT Movement is enabling the creation of a collective vision for a future and a present without racism and its harmful consequences on the health of individuals and the society as a whole.
