Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Cancellation and Refund Policy?
All monies will be refunded in full (less a $50 administration fee) if you cancel 14 or more days prior to your arrival date. If you cancel between 13 days and 1 day in advance, a nonrefundable credit (less a $50 administration fee) will be held for one year from the date of issue. No credit or refund is available if you cancel on the workshop’s arrival day, if you do not show up, or if you leave an event early for any reason.

Does the full retreat include meals?
We offer complimentary beverages throughout the retreat that include lemon water, coffee, and hot tea.  On Saturdays, there is a one hour lunch break, and we offer an optional catered lunch option for $8.
We make this option available to ensure that we have everyone gathered to start on time after the one hour lunch break, and to give you time to enjoy lunch, conversation with other participants, and/or a leisurely walk.

Can I get more information on the Friday/ Saturday event?
Information regarding the event is available for you on our website *WEBSITE LINK for certain event*.  The event description is crafted by our speakers to give an accurate description of what they are planning. Their plans may be tweaked as they develop a feel for their audience and take audience questions, and consider responses.

Does this event qualify for CEU’s?
Yes! All of our events qualify for CEU’s. Please email info@thesophiainstitute.org  before the workshop to notify our team. The certificate will be handed to you on the final day of the retreat.

Are there scholarships available for this event?
Yes! Scholarships, work study and reduced tuition are available. If you have this need, please fill out the Scholarship Application and email your request to info@thesophiainstitute.org.

Can I attend only part of a seminar or retreat?
You can attend a Friday night lecture separate from a full weekend retreat, however we do not allow attending parts of a seminar. Events are built around full time frames to give you the most educational and transformative experience possible.

I cannot make the date, are there more locations?
Alternate locations can be found by reaching out to our speakers. The Sophia Institute only holds events in Charleston, South Carolina.

What supplies do we need to bring to this event?
It is recommended that you bring a journal or notebook, and bottled water. If you want to consider optional yoga, during lunch break, please bring your own yoga mat. Some people bring pillows to put at their back on top of the padded folding chairs provided.

 Can I volunteer?
We are looking for individuals who are flexible around the scheduled time of the event, and additionally 3-5 hours of office administrative tasks. Volunteering requires arriving at a time to set up at 4 pm. Tasks include: setup and breakdown of tables, chairs, and sound system, signing registrants in, taking lunch order forms, and handling book purchases. Office preparation requires: preparing flyers, name tags, and other administrative tasks. If this is you, please send us some information about yourself to info@thesophiainstitute.org !

Are there live streams to watch, if I am unable to attend an event?
We do offer live streams to watch occasionally, and they will be announced.

I did not receive a receipt or email confirmation.
This often happens when your email was mistakenly entered incorrectly. Email info@thesophiainstitute.org so we can help you correct this issue.

Where can I find lodging accommodations and are there any special rates?
The Sophia Institute does not offer lodging accommodations, but we have secured a preferred rate at several hotels in Charleston that is subject to availability.  For more details on those options, please go to our Visitor Planning page at: https://thesophiainstitute.org/recommendations-for-your-stay-in-charleston/.

We also suggest checking accommodations in Mt. Pleasant, West Ashley, and James Island, which are within 10-15 minutes from downtown.  Airbnb or VRBO might be other options for finding accommodations in Charleston.
