Benedictine Sr. Joan Chittister, OSB has been one of America’s key visionary spiritual voices for more than 30 years. Sister Joan manifests herself in many forms: social psychologist, communications theorist, best-selling author, columnist, Benedictine nun, but the voice is a constant. It is always clear, true, fierce and loving. Leadership, she believes, is not force but the ability to see the vision beyond the reality and make a road where no road has been. Honorary degrees, awards and countless organizations have recognized her work for justice, peace and equality, especially for women. She is the author of over 50 books – thirteen of which have won Catholic Press Association Awards – the latest: The Way of the Cross (Orbis) in 2014. She is a regular web columnist for the National Catholic Reporter (ncronline.org) and Huffington Post (Huffingtonpost.com). Her PhD is from Penn State University in Speech-Communication Theory, her masters from the University of Notre Dame. She founded and directs Benetvision (joanchittister.org) , a center for contemporary spirituality in Erie, Pennsylvania, was president of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, president of the Conference of American Benedictine Prioresses and was prioress of the Benedictine Sisters of Erie for 12 years. Sister Joan Chittister is Co-Chair of The Global Peace Initiative of Women (www.GPIW.org).
