Each year Sophia Institute creates an uplifting event that honors you, our community, our faculty, and all we do together to transform our lives and the world around us.

At our Sophia Spring Salon on Thursday, April 25, we are focusing on “Tending the Flame.” Mark Nepo will join us in person as our guest speaker, addressing this theme at the center of his own work with us.  We are tending the flame for so much now, our own inner soul flame, and the flame of a loved one, too, if we are caregiving. Tending the flame for democracy in America, for peace in our world, and for so much more.

Our Guest Performer

Dorothy Lawson is the founding cellist and co-Artistic Director of the New York-based string quartet, ETHEL. Established in 1998, ETHEL has been called, “indefatigable and eclectic” (The New York Times), “vital and brilliant” (The New Yorker). The members, all composer-performers, fuse uptown panache with downtown genre-bending. They have perfromed around the Untied States and worldwide, released 9 feature albums, guested on 40+ recordings, won a GRAMMY with jazz legend Hurt Elling, and toured with Todd Rundgren & Joe Jackson. They chanpion the art and music of today.
