The times in which we’re living are dramatic and unstable, yet pregnant with new possibilities for a future released from the shackles of fear.  At a time when fear and hatred have been turned into a political force, is it possible to harness the powers of love and decency for political purposes as well?

In fact we must, for the survival of our democracy depends on it. Our task is to create a new, whole-person politics, breaking free of a paradigm based on a decidedly outdated view of the world and embracing a more enlightened understanding of our relation to the universe.  We need a deeper, multi-dimensional understanding of our national story: where we have been, where we are, and where we need to go now.

As with other extraordinary times in our history — from our Founding to Abolition to Women’s Suffrage to the Civil Rights era — it is time once again to break free of an old way of being and embrace a new story going forward. As in the words of Abraham Lincoln, “… we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.”

Marianne Williamson will be touring this year, discussing how a revolution in consciousness paves the way to both personal and national renewal. In the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., “Our goal is to create a beloved community and this will require a qualitative change in our souls as well as a quantitative change in our lives.” Let us embrace the possibility of both.

Marianne is holding this event as a two hour session in other cities around the country.  We are fortunate that she has agreed to expand it to include a day long Saturday seminar.

Join Marianne Williamson on Friday evening for a discussion of how a change in consciousness will produce a change in our country.

On Saturday we will delve into the specific changes of mind and heart that produce a politics of love — a conversation that moves beyond political externals to a deeper, soulful, whole person consideration of what is possible in all of us, and through all of us, at this time in our history.

We are not just citizens entitled to certain rights: we are human beings entrusted with a great and glorious mission. Let us not just react to circumstances now, but rather respond to these times with both wisdom and strength. We need, in the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., a “qualitative shift in our souls” as well as a “quantitative shift in our circumstances.” For in order to do what we’re here to do, we must become the people we were born to become.

We can rise to the occasion of this moment in our history, responding to both the challenges and the possibilities that stand before us now. America has never embodied fully the promise of our first principles, but in every generation there have been those who tried, who struggled, to make it so.

Like any relationship, our relationship to democracy cannot be taken for granted; rather, it must be tended to. Use this weekend to expand your sense of both the meaning and the opportunities of conscious citizenship. Together, we all can make a meaningful contribution to the joyful, fierce and disruptive energies that are rising up among us at this amazing moment in time.
